After moving to the UK from India in 2021, Shefali and Amit spent several years renting near Fountainbridge before putting down permanent roots in Scotland. Their search for the perfect family home came to an end at West Craigs Green, where they quickly fell in love with a fully furnished Cruden showhome that ticked every box on their wishlist.
Shefali, an IT consultant, lives with her husband Amit, five-year-old daughter Shanaya and nine-month-old son Krishiv. Having started their home-buying journey in March, the family were keen to find a property that offered space, convenience and a welcoming community.
“We knew exactly what we were looking for,” explained Shefali. “A large primary bedroom, a spacious kitchen and dining area where we could spend time together as a family, and a garden that was a good size but still manageable. When we visited West Craigs Green, this home had it all.”
The family had already heard positive things about the development through friends who live locally and at West Craigs Green. Curious to see what was available, they arranged a visit to the Cruden sales office and a tour of the showhome.
“From the moment we arrived, Ashley in the sales team was so friendly and helpful,” said Shefali. “As soon as we walked into the showhome, we could immediately picture ourselves living there. Everything had been designed so beautifully and there were so many upgrades included.”
The family purchased Plot 104, a three-bedroom semi-detached villa that had previously served as a fully furnished showhome.
“All the wallpaper, furniture, fitted kitchen and finishing touches were included,” Shefali continued. “It made such a difference because we could see exactly how every space could work for our family. We actually made the decision to buy within three days of visiting. It felt like the house chose us.”
One room in particular proved especially popular with the youngest member of the family.
“My daughter absolutely loved the children’s bedroom,” said Shefali. “She loves animals, so the panda wallpaper was a huge hit. She was excited about the house straight away.”
Location was another major factor in the family’s decision. While they wanted easy access to Edinburgh city centre, they were also looking for a quieter environment in which to raise their children. As first-time buyers in the UK, the family also valued the reassurance that comes with purchasing a new-build home.
“When we were looking for our home, we wanted to be close to the city centre but still have a countryside feel,” said Shefali. “West Craigs Green offers the best of both worlds. It’s incredibly well connected, but it also feels peaceful and family-friendly. We liked the security that comes with a new-build property, including all the guarantees and warranties. It gave us real peace of mind.”
The move itself was made even easier thanks to the timing of the purchase and the fact that the property was fully furnished.
“The move-in process was very smooth,” said Shefali. “We received the keys before our rental agreement ended, which gave us plenty of time to move. Because the house was a showhome and already furnished, there were far fewer large items to pack and transport.”
Since moving in, the family have settled in quickly and have enjoyed watching the planes take off and land from their incredible front and back view. They have also been impressed by the support they have received from the Cruden team.
“The team has been excellent and very responsive to any questions I’ve raised. Louis, the Site Manager, has been particularly helpful and supportive throughout the process.
“West Craigs Green has a great community feel and we’ve settled in really quickly. We’ve met our neighbours and everyone has been very welcoming. Shanaya is already making new friends nearby, and she’ll be starting Primary 2 at the local school after the summer holidays, which we’re really excited about.
“We would highly recommend Cruden to our friends and family. In fact, we’re already encouraging more of our friends to come and join us here.”
